New Fuel Tank Bottom Water Sumping Practices
Fuel tanks collect water in the bottom and manual sumping must take place to remove the accumulated water. Water accumulation presents both an environmental problem and manpower issue as it relates to removing the water collected in the low sump areas of very large fuel storage tanks containing jet fuel, diesel fuel and gasoline. This water collects in the bottom of large tanks by natural separation. Normally, the fuel is not emulsified with water, because the water readily separates to the bottom, and typically the fuel has low particulate levels. Water enters into the fuel tanks primary due to condensation caused by free breathing storage tanks and is picked up when the fuel is delivered to the fuel tank by pipelines, trucks, or barge. Operators typically drain (sump) the water daily. The operator must be able to determine the correct time to close the sumping valve (just before the fuel phase is reached). This manual sumping operation is very difficult and time consuming for the operator, whereas their time could be used for other operations. Because of manual sumping, several gallons of fuel are discarded each year during these sumping operations.
The Model 900-914 Fast Flush Tank Bottom Fue/Water Separator offers a valuable solution to manual sumping. As a fuel water separator the 900-914 separates water from large fuel storage tanks, including jet fuel, gasoline and diesel.
Benefits of Using the 900-914 Fast Flush System:
- EASY INSTALLATION INTO EXISTING TANK DRAIN OR SUMPING LINE
- AUTOMATIC OPERATION
- WATER IS SEPARTED FROM FUEL
- REDUCTION OF FUEL WASTE
- REDUCTION OF REQUIRED LABOR WHEN COMPARED TO MANUAL SUMPING
- ELIMINATING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT WITH TOTALLY SEALED SYSTEM
Features of the Fast Flush System:
- Drains water from large fuel tanks with minimal operator invovlement
- Permanently installed to eliminate spills and operator contact with fuel
- Very fast unattended operation (available at 20 gpm process or 60 gpm process rate)
- Automatically separtes water from any fuel carry-over
- Returns clean fuel to storage and contaminated water to site collection system
- Suitable for all jet turbine fuels both MILITARY and COMMERCIAL
- Suitable for DIESEL and GASOLINE Storage Sites
- Meets all electrical requirements for Class I, Division II, Group D hazardous area
- Optional devices available to measure water removed and water collection tanks
